Founder Gemma Sisia has travelled the world spreading the word about The School of St Jude; inspiring people of all ages and from all walks of life with her story.
The School of St Jude is one of the largest charity schools in East Africa. It’s been fighting poverty through education since 2002, when it first opened its gates with one volunteer teacher and three students. Today the school has 1,800 students, provides boarding accommodation to 1,400 students and supports hundreds of its graduates onto higher education.
Join Gemma as she tells her incredible story, how she came to find herself in Africa, how she built a school in Arusha, Tanzania and all of the achievements and challenges that have come along the way. You will also to meet and hear Godwin’s story, a 2018 graduate of St Jude’s who was recently accepted into an internationally-renowned American university. This trip will make him the first of his family to travel outside of Tanzania.
Gemma’s achievements were honoured by an Order of Australia medal in 2007, she has featured twice in the ABC TV documentary Australian Story and she was also named one of the Australian Financial Review and Westpac’s 100 Women of Influence in 2012.
